Youth Empowerment Through Volunteerism – Thessaloniki 2023
On 10 December 2023, the Greek Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation supported and co-organised the “Youth Empowerment Through Volunteerism” event in Thessaloniki together with ThessDiktio, with the support of the Volunteering Department of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
The event took place at a cultural venue in the city’s port and aimed to highlight the importance of volunteerism as a tool for youth empowerment, active citizenship and community development. Young people, students, volunteers, families and children had the opportunity to take part in workshops, discussions and interactive activities, while also learning more about the work of civil society organisations in Thessaloniki and the initiatives of the Greek Network.
The programme included workshops on volunteerism and civic engagement, activities for children, thematic discussions with representatives of civil society, academia and local government, as well as a Volunteer Fair, where participants could discover volunteering opportunities. A Living Library, short film screenings and photography exhibitions focusing on volunteerism and solidarity were also part of the programme.
More than 100 visitors took part in the activities throughout the day. The event helped raise awareness about the value of volunteerism, encouraged new partnerships and inspired young people to play a more active role in their communities.
